I fished with Jim and Karen from Wisconsin. they wanted to go out and do some backcountry fishing. We landed Jacks, blue runners, lady fish, pompano also a Blacktip shark and a very large barracuda.
Key west does not look like it is taking part of winter, I am writing this report Christmas day and the temperature outside is 80 and the water is 78. The fish do not really know what to do with this, the most consistent fishing has been permit but the humidity and the overcast skies have made them really difficult to catch. I have tried fishing the backcountry east of Key west but once again we need some strong cold fronts to make this type of fishing happen. My last 2 clients landed very nice lemon sharks on our flats trip.
John Green landed this very nice barracuda west of Key west.
Fished with a lovely couple from Pa today, Rob and Rene. We headed east of Key west to do some back country fishing, I hit several channels and the fishing was really slow. I went to another spot that has been working well but we could not get a bite. I chummed a spot for sharks and that did not happen. We went to another spot on our way back to Key west and landed a few blue runners that we used for shark bait. It did not take long and a lemon ate the bait and shook the hook, the next sharks were spinners that cut our line, the last shark was a nice 5ft black tip that we released.
