Getting a chance to fish

I have told many clients of mine that if you really love to fish, don’t become a fishing guide. I got a chance to break out my fly rod and go flats fishing. Long-term client and friend of mine Ricky and I, shared time pulling my boat. We landed several bonefish. I also landed a barracuda, bar jack and had a permit tail up on my fly but not eat.

Flats fishing with Chris Wells

I had 2 wonderful days of fishing with Chris Wells. the first day we landed a nice 60 pound tarpon and a bonefish. We lost several barracudas and had several shots at permit but we were not able to get the slam. The second day the winds picked up and we struggled all day. we did manage to land a small lemon shark on a nice white flat.

Key west flats fishing report 3/12/14

It was another beautiful day as I departed Key west harbor. My clients were Bill and Jim from Wisconsin. We were in search of tarpon so we headed to a spot that usually hold fish on an incoming tide. I had to move a few times but Bill hooked and landed his first tarpon.

Key west flats fishing report 12/8/13

Day 2 of fishing with Brian arrived with high winds and perfect skies. The first day we ran into a huge school of busting jacks, Brian broke in my new very light weight St croix spin rod on a healthy Jack. We headed out west in search of permit but the skies clouded up and we headed home. Today the fishing was slow with a handful of permit and barracudas, we did end up landing a trophy permit the 1 fish Brian was in search of.
