Key west flats fishing report 5/12/13

Adam/Karen Johnson booked me for a 4hr trip today, we left Key west around 9am and started fishing 4 miles to the west. We missed 1 shot at a nice lemon shark before Adam hooked a fiery black tip shark that jumped 3 times and ran out a hundred feet of line. We started gaining line and had the sharks boat side 15 minutes later. I then moved to a wreck so Karen could hook a smaller lemon shark. We had 2 bite offs before Karen landed her first and largest fish of her life, not a bad way to start off a fishing career. Permit and barracuda were the next species I wanted to catch. We missed a fast moving permit and another that spooked just before committing, the 3rd cast was perfect and adam was hooked up soon after. The permit fought for about 10 minutes before we had him and Adam posed for the camera. Barracuda was the last species and we hooked and broke off our first fish, the second spit the hook and the last refused boat side. 2 out of 3 species caught is a very good day out on the water.
