Key west fishing report june 8th 2012

Key west flats fishing report brought to you by Capt Anthony Skinner owner of AWS charters.

It has been almost 6 months since my last post so I dusted off my Cannon rebel and headed out before first light with Hall Graham and Bryan Roberts. We headed east of Key west and were greeted with the lovely sound of Tarpon busting shrimp. Bryan was up first and did not draw a strike with a soft plastic but would later in the day. We headed a little further east and Hall stripped out his fly line and started to cast to the rolling tarpon. He hooked his first fish about 5 minutes later and fought a 80 pounder for about 10 minutes before the fly came undone. I polled back to the spot and were hooked up in no time, this time after about a 30 minute fight I grabbed the leader before the line parted. A friend of mine called me in for a guppy hatch and with plenty of rolling tarpon Bryan was hooked up with a feisty 30 pounder that we did get pictures with. Bonefish was our next target so I headed to a white sand spot and Bryan landed a nice bone on a tipped jig. I hit 2 more spots before we found more Bonefish, our first bone turned out to be a jack but the second 1 was a 5 pounder that Hall landed. We had about 30 minutes so catching the high tide we went permit fishing, bryan had a shot at a single and a double but did not get a hook up.

I am off tomorrow but will have a fishing report on Sunday
