Key west fishing report 7/14/12
Key west flats fishing by AWS charters
Today my clients were Scott Barber and his friend Matt, these 2 were down for a wedding from Iowa. We headed out at 5am in search of tarpon. Matt was up on the bow at the first and second spot, the first spot we did not hook up, at the second he landed his first Key west tarpon. His tarpon was a feisty 10-20 pounder that jumped all around the boat before we landed him. Scott was up next and jumped 3 and had 2 more eats before the sun came up and the baby tarpon disappeared. I hit 2 spots for large tarpon to no avail so we changed tactics and went shark fishing. We found lady fish on the 2nd drift and after butterflying 1 up we had sharks around the boat. The first shark that ate was a black tip that screamed out 100 yards of line before coming loose. The second was a very large hammer head that came screaming towards the lady fish with its dorsal fin showing, it did not eat right away but eventually grabbed the bait and once again came off. We lost another shark when the line hit my anchor and broke.
