Today i had the pleasure of fishing with 2 of my favorites client, Bill and Terry. We went out today in search of bonefish and permit. I headed to a flat east of Key west that has been good for bonefish. I spotted my first school of bonefish after about 15 minutes. Bill did not hook up on the first few schools but once I changed from a crab to a jig, he hooked up right away. We finished this flat and went in search of permit. I only found 1 before we headed home.
polling and found no permit but we did get 5 strikes from barracudas that we did not land. My next spot we were looking for sharks, we had 1 shot but threw off the bait. The next spot we missed our first cuda but landed the next 1 which was a trophy. This cuda weighed in around 20 pounds, good job Micheal. We then ran into a channel full of Jack Cravelle, in the matter of 20 minutes we had 3 double and 2 triple hook ups.
Fishing report by Capt Anthony Skinner.
July fishing could be best described as “tough”. I had to think outside the box and fish differently then I normally. The flats fishing was very spotty with very few shots and any of the big 3. That being said my clients still did catch tarpon, permit and bonefish. Thinking outside the box saw me throw the cast net for pitchers, this resulted in plenty of barracudas, jacks, blue runners and 1 tarpon. I also fished flats for sharks and jacks on the back of sting rays. This type of fishing I usually wait until the fall to do but July I did anything just to bend the rod.
